Going Crazy with Homemade Diets

After months of tinkering in the kitchen, I’ve finally settled on a handful of base combinations for Anubis’ food. I’ve dabbled with a variety of proteins in the process, such as bison, turkey, beef, chicken, pork, duck, lamb, and fish. But I’m partial to turkey, beef, chicken, and fish since they’re economical and easily accessible. My go-to veggies are broccoli, carrot, brussel sprout, celery, kale, and green bean. I also add limited amounts of carbs like sweet potato, rolled oats, brown rice, and multigrain bread.

I’m a huge fan of bone broth and tumeric/golden paste, so they are in every batch. Fruits such as apple, banana, blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, and/or oranges are in every meal or given as treats in-between meals. I give at least an apple a day in the morning meals and mixed berries in the evening meals. Supplements are essential in my opinion, so I mix and match chia seed, flax seed, hemp seed, sunflower seed, pumpkin seed, spirulina, kelp, nutritional yeast, cinnamon, calcium, probiotic, and vitamin C.. oh, and a pinch of himalayan salt and raw garlic.

I guess you can say I’m going a bit overboard with this.. hubby definitely thinks so at times LOL. Anubis is a big dog and I’m usually making two batches every week, spending easily an hour or two in the kitchen chopping, prepping, and mixing. It’s not ideal, and many days I’m exhausted chasing after a toddler, but seeing how Anubis is thriving gives me hope, strength, and motivation to keep at it. We opted out of chemo, and the time frame the doctors gave is 3-6 months. But I’m hoping a healthier diet and lifestyle will keep him with us for awhile longer. He definitely deserves it. Plus, I do love seeing him active and playful. It’s as if he’s still a pup and has four legs <3

Officially a Tripawd Family

Hubby and I officially became tripawd parents this past weekend. After days with him recuperating, sometimes it still feels so surreal. I still have trouble looking at the wound (he wears a shirt), and cringe at the idea of how much pain he must’ve suffered whenever I apply compresses or salves for him. But I’m also so proud that our boy is such a fighter, a survivor. We’re glad to have made this decision to save him even at 9.5 yo, and that’s partly for the resources and info provided by the Tripawds group. It gave us more confidence that we can have more time with him and beat the odds of his cancer!
